We've also listened to your needs and given you the option to connect your Android Smartphone wirelessly with your car. For maximum convenience, control and switch between apps with your voice thanks to Google Assistant at just a press of a button.

BimmerTech's MMI Prime upgrade is compatible with F-Series, G-Series BMWs and MINIs with newer iDrive generations (e.g. ENAVEVO, NBT EVO ID5/ID6). It also features Apple Carplay which you can use on your iDrive screen either wirelessly or with the MMI's USB port.

Please Note: Android Auto App must be installed on phones with Android 9 or less. Please download the App via Google App store.  Android Auto is pre-installed on Android phones with the Android 10 OS or above.

1. Wireless Android Auto Capability

MMI Prime lets you connect your Android Smartphone wirelessly. After pairing your Android smartphone and MMI Prime once, the MMI will recognize your Smartphone each time you get in your car and connect wirelessly, without you even having to remove your phone from your pocket or bag. When using Android Auto you’ll be able to answer calls just like with a Bluetooth hands-free connection.

If you'd rather connect your android smartphone with the use of a cable, you are also free to do so.  MMI Prime supports both wired and wireless phone connections.

2. USB multimedia and charging port

Our Android Auto solution comes with a USB port. It lets you charge your smartphone on longer drives, or you can use it for playing videos and music on your iDrive Screen from a USB thumb drive.

The MMI's USB port can also be used in the future for software updates. So, if you won't be using it for charging or multimedia playback — make sure to place it in an accessible location.

3. Full-Screen Mode

MMI Prime lets you use all your favorite Android Auto compatible apps on the original BMW display in full-screen. The retrofit's 1280x480 resolution for big screens and 800x480 resolution for small screens look great on all screen sizes.

Note that in MINIs with a rounded screen, a small part of each corner of the interface will be obscured when using full-screen mode.

The Full-Screen mode also includes a Screen Mirroring option, which lets you cast the screen of your mobile device onto the BMW’s display, and stream audio through the car speakers.  While Android phones require a cable connection , Apple iphones can Cast wirelessly.

 4. Easy control with iDrive and steering wheel buttons

To navigate the Android Auto apps, you can use Google Assistant (with a press of the voice command button), the iDrive controller or even the steering wheel buttons, including the roller button.

 5. Apple Carplay support

The kit contains a Multimedia Interface (MMI) — a module that also adds Apple Carplay to your BMW. So if you have family members or friends with an Apple iPhone, connecting their devices will be a breeze too!

6. Integration with Front and Rear View Cameras

The MMI module makes it easy to add front and reversing cameras to your order for a much lower price. The front view camera can easily be activated by holding the Option button for 2 seconds. To exit camera mode, just press Back. It can also be set up to appear automatically for up to 20 seconds when shifting from Reverse to Drive.

7. High-quality audio with an equalizer

The audio output circuit in the CarPlay MMI Prime has been specifically selected to squeeze all the quality we can out of the iDrive AUX input, providing great audio quality for music, streaming and calls. 

Remember, if you don’t have an AUX input in your BMW’s Media/Radio section it will be vital to code it into your vehicle. See video on how to check if your BMW has AUX input in this video. The ‘AUX Activation Coding’ and ‘Coding Cable’ are required of your Car is not equipped with an AUX menu. Bimmer-tech technicians will enable the AUX port in your BMW via a remote coding session.

If you have an AUX option in your car, dont select the ‘AUX Activation Coding’ and ‘Coding Cable’ options.

 8. Other features:

• Android Auto MMI Prime supports devices running Android 8 or higher
• Play music through the BMW stereo system with the help of the AUX input. If you don’t have an AUX port, we can code your car to enable the input;
• Our Android Auto retrofit also uses the factory car microphone for Google Assist voice commands. This means that you can access your music library, learn the latest news or send texts hands-free. For this feature to work, your BMW has to have Bluetooth or Voice Control;
• The installation is completely plug & play and 100% reversible.

The Android Auto MMI Prime retrofit requires the phone to be connected to the MMI's USB port, unless using one of the Compatible phones.

• Provides audio playback through your BMW's AUX port
• BimmerTech is not able to verify whether your phone is compatible with the Android Auto app. It is strongly advised to confirm compatibility before purchase. According to Android Auto you can use the app with an Android phone running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and up with a data plan. For best performance, the Android Auto team recommends Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and up. You can check your phone's software version by looking at the About Device section under Settings.
• If the Android Auto app isn't available in your Google Play account due to the regional limitations, you can download the .apk file from an alternative source. Please note that Google does not take responsibility for any damage to your phone or loss of data that may result from using unknown apps.
• The installation is completely plug & play and 100% reversible but depending on your head unit it may be either very easy or a bit more complicated. To check how to install Android Auto MMI Prime in your BMW, decode your VIN.

Android Auto MMI Prime is compatible with BMW with Touch Screens, however you will not be able to use touch when navigating the MMI’s menu or when using CarPlay and Android Auto. Safely controlling the device with the steering wheel buttons, iDrive controller and Siri/Google Assistant still offers plenty of convenience.

Note: Vehicle must be equipped with AUX/USB, dependent on the vehicle, to allow sound output. AUX/USB, dependent on the vehicle, will need to be selected on the vehicle's head unit for sound to be transmitted when in Carplay/Android Auto mode.
