Android Auto MMI Prime Retrofit for BMW 

Just download the free Android Auto app from Google Play, connect your phone via a USB cable and enjoy using:

• Google Maps or Waze for navigation,
• Spotify, Pandora or Google Play Music for listening to your favorite songs
• WhatsApp, Kik or Messenger for communication
• Google Assistant for voice commands and not taking your eyes off the road!

With high resolution (1280x480) you will be able to enjoy maps or album art covers full-screen. But this not the only benefit you get from the full-screen mode.

Our BMW Android Auto solution includes a USB cable with a user-facing female socket that can be conveniently positioned near the center console. Apart from offering a way to connect your smartphone to the iDrive system and charge your device, you can also use it to play videos from a USB thumb drive.

Please note that the Android Auto BMW retrofit requires the phone to be paired with the car via Bluetooth to receive and make calls. But the Bluetooth audio (Media) option must be turned off on the phone or in the car. Audio instead is transmitted via the USB cable to the MMI and to the iDrive through the AUX input in the radio head unit. In case you don’t have an AUX port, we can code your car to enable the input.

Android Auto for BMW is compatible with F-series cars that have both newer and older iDrive generations (e.g. ENTRY, NBT, NBT EVO ID4, etc).

Please note that Car Communications Ltd & BimmerTech is not able to verify whether your phone is compatible with Android Auto. It is strongly advised to confirm compatibility before the purchase. According to Android Auto you can use the app with an Android phone running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and up with a data plan. For best performance, the Android Auto team recommends Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and up. You can check your phone’s software version by looking at the About Device section under Settings. Mirroring of some apps or content using the Screen Mirroring feature may be blocked due to the copyright-holder's DRM. Car Commuications Ltd & BimmerTech is not responsible for the continued compatibility of any third-party apps with Android Auto MMI Prime.

If Android Auto app isn’t available in your Google Play account due to the regional limitations, you can download the .apk file from an alternative source. Please mind that Google doesn’t take responsibility for any damage to your phone or loss of data that may result from using unknown apps.

Note: Vehicle must be equipped with AUX/USB, dependent on the vehicle, to allow sound output. AUX/USB, dependent on the vehicle, will need to be selected on the vehicle's head unit for sound to be transmitted when in Carplay/Android Auto mode.
